Description

I have been thinking about what defines me as an artist and a person.

Each (professional and well known) artist has something specific about it, almost like a watermark, that defines it. Something that people can look at and immediately say "Hey, that's that person's art." I was thinking about what defines my art. What has stayed consistent over the years despite my constant change?

Some things that I noted was my use of color and ecclectic backgrounds. Also, my love of beauty and whimsy and my free-spirited nature.

Embracing this, I have actually found myself extremely drawn to the Mori Kei (Or Forest Girl) Japanese street fashion and style. It's simple, but whimsical. It's rules I find freeing in ways that styles such as Lolita wasn't. It also is an embrace of the old vintage styles, and the simple beauty of life.

I wanted to make a set of paintings based on these feelings. They will be released once or twice a week, and all will feature woodland animals in a Mori Girl esque aesthetic. They can be bought here:

What do you guys think? I have quite a few watchers now, and a few have been around a while. What draws you to my style? What are the definining features of my art to you?

(Before anything, I just looked up Mori Kei and oh man it is too precious. Definitely, definitely suits the general feel your style gives me!)

This may sound a little bit odd, but when I think of your art I think of scrapbooks. You're a skilled mixer of media: starry wallpaper here, a little watercolor and paint there, ribbons and bows and glitter glue like a living quilt of sorts. It's a hard look to pull off but you're well on your way to mastering it. This little picture here is a great example: it's unique, for certain! I'm wondering how you could take the scrapbook style to a new level? Perhaps you could find ways to wash out old newspapers, then use that as a canvas for your more modern pieces... or washed-out wallpapers (I can lend a few... got walls of it!) for the fantasy work? Lots of options, so I'm eager to see where you take it!
